The Dana Wireless is sure to impress mobile workers with its capabilities and the ability to keep mobile workers connected and maintain their productivity while on the road. Alphasmart Dana Wireless
by Tim Smith

A good alternative to a big, pricey notebook.

If all you need a notebook for is word processing and email, then it's probably overkill to spend a lot of money. An alternative to a notebook is a product like the Dana Wireless from Alphasmart, which fills in the gap between notebooks and traditional PDAs.

The keyboard is worthy of note, not just because of its usefulness, but also for its quality. It is very comfortable to type on with better travel than many laptops. The only drawback is that many Palm applications are not designed to take account of a keyboard, making the stylus essential at certain times.

Alphasmart Dana Wireless
by Andy Shaw

You don't have to shell out for a laptop to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot and get your email, surf the web or chat via instant messengers

With the Wi-Fi revolution rolling ever onwards, you might be wondering about the best way to join the party. The Dana Wireless is one option - a laptop style case containing PDA functionality and everything you need to start surfing and communicating wherever you can find a Wi-Fi connection.

We were pleasantly surprised at the speed and ease with which we got this hooked up to a wireless network. As long as you know all the settings you'll need, it shouldn't take longer than a few seconds and is very straightforward.

AlphaSmart Dana Wireless
by Giles Turnbull

For anyone who wants to be able to write anywhere, the AlphaSmart Dana Wireless is an excellent tool for knocking out large quantities of text at a moment's notice

AlphaSmart's Dana Wireless is a Palm OS-powered device with a built-in keyboard designed for writers. To really appreciate why and how it has been built the way it has, you need to look at AlphaSmart's earlier writing tool, the AlphaSmart 3000.

While the Dana may not be ideal for PDA tasks, it is excellent for writing with. The keyboard is superb, offering just the right amount of key travel and satisfying feel without being overly noisy. It's a proper full-sized keyboard, about the same width as an iBook's. There are plenty of modifier keys that allow you to use the basic Palm functions (New, Done, OK, Cancel and so on) without lifting your fingers. As with any other monochrome Palm device, the battery life is impressive, and the built-in rechargeable battery pack can be replaced with standard AA cells if necessary.

For anyone who wants to be able to write anywhere, the AlphaSmart Dana Wireless is an excellent tool for knocking out large quantities of text at a moment's notice. Its simplicity is a nice change for people who spend valuable writing time devoting tender loving care to their delicate laptops.
